Step Back in Time: a guided walk from Lockerbrook

About

Lockerbrook Farm was built in 1756 and is situated on an ancient packhorse route high above the Derwent Valley. In 1964 it was rescued from dereliction by the local Woodcraft Folk group in Sheffield and developed by volunteers to become an outdoor centre for young people.

Our walk leader Terry Howard grew up in Sheffield and first came to Lockerbrook in the early 1960s as part of the Woodcraft Folk. Come and join us for this short 4 mile walk to hear the stories of why Lockerbrook is such a special place for the Woodcraft Folk and to explore the stunning landscape around the centre. Terry will share his extensive knowledge of the pre-history of the site as well as some of the fascinating and little known social history of the area.

The walk is programmed to last no more than 2 hours and will start promptly at 11.00 and end at 13.00 at the Centre. It will be fairly easy walking at a gentle pace. The aim is to have the time to enjoy the landscape and to hear the stories rather than hike round at a rapid pace! Please arrive at the Centre no later than 10.45am. You can drive up the bridleway to the Centre - detailed instructions are here: http://lockerbrook.org.uk/find-us/. There is very limited car parking at the Centre therefore if you are coming with friends please either lift share or use public transport to arrive at Fairholmes Visitor Centre and walk up from there to the Centre (steep walk of about 25 minutes). Wear warm, waterproof clothing and walking shoes or boots. Bring a packed lunch. The price of your ticket includes a warm drink at the end of the walk.
