Film: Melanie Baker - False Fantasies

About

A selection of films highlighting this year's festival theme.

12 000 km

A ski- and snowboard adventure, starting in Sweden and taking us with ferries and the Trans Siberian railway through the deepest parts of Russia all the way to Japan.

The prevailing climate threat makes a bunch of Swedish and Russian extreme skiers/snowboarders take trains and boats from Stockholm all the way to Japan, in search of powder and an adventure of a lifetime.

Along the world longest train ride they make various stops in Siberia's deep and frostbitten forests, to explore unridden mountains and getting to know the special Russian culture from the inside. A big bunch of humor, culture and world class riding sums up this epic journey.

Beyond The Break

The story of a group of pro surfers who have left the international surfing circuit in order to grow organic vegetables on Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way.

Floe State

This opportunity to take some time and embrace the peace and tranquility that Gilly experiences in her time ice swimming was a true pleasure.

While we thrive on following adrenaline fuelled adventures, this opportunity to take some time and embrace the peace and tranquility that Gilly experiences in her time ice swimming was a true pleasure. Whilst a hostile and unforgiving environment, to most, the presence of mind and calmness is a true inspiration and something that actually translates to all of our day to day encounters.

Safe Haven

Founded on the belief that everyone is welcome, Memphis Rox opened a climbing gym to be at the center of the city's revitalization.

Melanie Baker - 'False Fantasies'

An emotional fell-top performance, shot one snowy April sunrise.

Hue media, a London based production company teamed up with Cumbrian singer/songwriter Melanie Baker for their latest project. Together with Melanie they developed a concept for a music video for her latest single ‘False Fantasies’. The vision was to place a piano on the summit of a Lake District mountain, something which had never been done before, for her to perform at sunrise. This vision came to fruition and the video was recorded on the summit of Fleetwith Pike, just as the sun rose on a very chilly April morning.
The concept for the video was developed and directed by Peter Blair, of Hue Media. Peter met Cumbrian singer songwriter Melanie Baker who was looking for a unique video to showcase her latest single. They wanted to capture the essence of the song, whilst representing the stunning beauty of the Lake District where both Melanie and Peter are originally from. The concept to put a piano on a Lake District summit, while Melanie performed her single at sunrise was then born.
Months of planning went into the 2 day shoot to capture the footage. In true Cumbrian style the weather provided extra challenges, the team were up against strong winds, rain and even snow! To access the summit of Fleetwith Pike, Honister Slate Mine kindly gave the team access to an old mining track so they could safely transport the team and their equipment to the summit.
Peter Blair of Hue Media, a self taught photographer and filmmaker developed the concept and directed the video alongside filming and capturing the drone footage. Louis-Jack Horton Stephens, award winning artist filmmaker, from London, was assistant director and added his unique flare and expertise to the shoot to help the vision come alive.

The Life Of Pie

Pizza and bikes can fix anything.

In 2002, mountain bikers and entrepreneurs Jen Zeuner and Anne Keller moved to Fruita, Colorado, in search of cheap rent, world-class single track, and free time to ride. Over 15 years later, the two unconventional women have helped reshape one of the state’s most conservative towns, uniting the community through advocacy, inclusivity, and damn good pizza.

Run the Line

Overgrown, farmed, pushed out, sold off and only half there, Beau sets off with shovel in hand, dressed like a 50's train driver, to retrace an old trainline.

Beau Miles lives next to the old Warragul-Noojee Railway line, which snaked for 43km through the foothills of Mt. Baw Baw, and ran from 1892-1954. You can still see the line now as strange scars across paddocks and bold cuttings through the sides of hills. Overgrown, private, exposed, or hard to find, Beau aims to re-run the train line, picking up and finding the stations of yesteryear.
