Road Cycling Tour - For the Climbers of the Pack (2 Day)

Road Cycling Tour - For the Climbers of the Pack (2 Day)

Warning steep climb ahead!  Sheffield is built on seven hills and sits partly within the Peak District National Park, so if you’re on a cycling holiday and riding in the area you can expect to find some serious climbs.  However, instead of shying away from them, why not embrace the incline with this celebration of all things steep!

Day 1

Let’s start with a scenic ride out to explore the cycling routes of the Peak District National Park, why not put a route together to take in the picturesque Monsal Head via a couple of classic Peak District cycling climbs.

Make your route out of the City Centre by way of Ecclesall Road, which offers a variety of breakfast and lunch options: if you’re happy to carry the extra weight!  If not, fear not, as there will be good refreshments options later in the ride as you pass through the quaint tourist villages along the cycling routes of the Peak District.

Lunch at Monsal Head

If you’ve made it up to the top, you’ll now be rewarded with the missing elements from your cycling holiday – good food and breath-taking views!

Lunch options at The Monsal Head pub and Hobbs café with outdoor sitting and stunning views.

Make your way back into the City on Abbeydale Road, where a caffeine stop at the popular Amici & Bici is a must for any visiting cyclist.

Late Afternoon

Take it easy in the afternoon, there’s plenty of riding to be done tomorrow. So spend a few culture rich hours by dipping into a section of The Outdoor City’s Gallery Crawl.

Feeling recovered?  Good, now it’s time to get some tasty carbs in while reflecting on the first day of your cycling holiday.  Let’s look at it as a warm up ride, as tomorrow is going to be the real leg tester!

Try Kia’s Pastaria (Booking usually required), for a big bowl of energy packed pasta.

Day 2

Magnificent Seven Route

The Magnificent Seven is a unique cycling event in Sheffield. Not for the fainthearted, the race is a cross between a sportive and a hill climb that invites participants to face seven of the city’s toughest and most challenging hills.

The 2019 event will feature five new climbs. The full route is just over 23 miles long, presenting each rider with over 3,200ft of climbing around Sheffield, with inclines ranging from 9 to 23 per cent.  Spectators are welcome and encouraged on all of the 7 climbs.

The route starts and finishes in the village of Bradfield, Bradfield Brewery is a local beer producer who operate the Nags Head pub on route, on Loxley Road, if you fancy any liquid or food refreshments on your trip back into the city.

If you’re legs are working enough to manage to walk out of your hotel and to dinner, then it’s time to unwind with a few drinks in the bustling atmosphere of Kelham Island.

Kelham Island: Once the beating heart of industry, Kelham Island is one of Sheffield’s oldest manufacturing sites. The manmade island was formed in the 1100s, when a stream was diverted to power a nearby mill. However, as industrial activity has moved on, the area has undergone a significant transformation in recent years and quietly become one of the most exciting parts of the city.

The remains of the numerous cutlery and steel works, factories and workshops is part of what gives the area its distinct charm, except nowadays these buildings house everything from indie shopping arcades to microbreweries and galleries.
