Ride, Ride, Ride! (2 Day)

(Download the itinerary here)

The Outdoor City offers the novice to advanced mountain biker many options for a mountain biking holiday that includes big rides, scenic tootles and bumps and jumps.

This itinerary is aimed at the more advanced rider.

Day 1

Let’s start the mountain biking holiday as you mean to go on, with an epic adventure….!

You’ll head out to the Peak District and tackle one of the traditional routes that has made the national park a firm favourite with riders from near and far.

This traditional Kinder Circuit is a UK classic. Cruelling climbs are rewarded with fast downhills against the stunning backdrop of the rolling hills of the Peak District.

To get there

Take the train from Sheffield City Centre to Edale, where the route starts.

If you need any kit or repairs, Russell’s Bike Shed is conveniently placed within the train station.

Cheshire Cheese Pub – Based on route, around a mile from the end of the ride, “The Cheese” is a traditional, cosy pub, offering real ale and real pub food.

The Rambler Inn – Sitting next to Edale Train station, the perfect end to the ride.

Hutcliffe Woods – Hidden Gem

Jump back on the train at Edale, heading back towards Sheffield.  However, we can’t call this a mountain biking holiday without doing some more riding!  So jump off the train at Dore station to discover some hidden jumpy delights!

A short ride down the road will lead you to the small Hutcliffe Woods.  Half way along the path that runs through the woods you’ll find a hidden collection of bumps and jumps to pass an entertaining hour or so.

Late Afternoon

If you got carried away burning the afternoon away on the jumps of Hutcliffe Wood and are looking for instant refreshments, Millhouses Park lays adjacent to the Woods, with a café within the grounds and the Millhouses Pub on the edge of the park.

After spending a little time to unwind back at your hotel and recuperate from the days riding, it’s time to complete this first day of your mountain biking holiday with some nightlife action.

Sharrowvale Road/Hunters Bar

There are lots of options for dinner, including:

If the weather is fine, then why not go for a take-out option?  You can make your way over to Endcliffe Park, finding a space on the grass for some Outdoor City style al-fresco dinning!

Porter Pizza - Here at The Porter Pizza Company we make Italian inspired pizzas, using fresh dough and authentic, inspiring ingredients…. all cooked to perfection in our wood fired oven.  If you enjoy real pizza with integrity, come and try ours.

The Street Food Chef - We’re a family run Mexican street food outlet passionate about providing a healthy fast food alternative to the people of Sheffield.

Handmade Donuts - Eve Kitchen is the culmination of lots of hard work, a dream and finally the reality of opening my very own Handmade Doughnut shop and artisan cafe.  My name is Lauren Eve and I am the creator, maker and baker. I am one person who believes in making small batch, handmade doughnuts the best I can, every single time.

Later for Drinks

There are a number of pubs and bars in the area, try out:

Lescar – Old style pub with a welcoming atmosphere, it’s popular with the locals and has a real buzz about it on weekends.

Porter Cottage – Another friendly, traditional pub which has long been famous for its high quality jukebox!

The Beer Room – A micro pub with a laidback atmosphere and good selection of beers.

Day Two

Parkwood Springs

Hopefully you polished your technical skills enough on the jumps at Hutcliffe Wood yesterday to be ready to tackle the impressive array of bumps at Parkwood Springs:

‘Ten years in the making, Parkwood Springs opened in autumn 2012 and has been offering riders the opportunity for a big grin inducing, all-weather swoopy, jumpy treat ever since.’

Try stopping by The Grind Cafe on your way back into the city.

Park Hill – Home of the urban cycle cross event

Staying in the city centre for afternoon, you'll explore the ups and downs of  Parkhill, a listed post-war estate that has undergone regeneration and now homes one of the UK's coolest bike races.

Tucked away in the estate and conveniently placed for the hungry rider is South Street Kitchen, an independent cafe offering speciality coffee and Middle Eastern inspired food.

And that's it, your mountain biking, adventure city break is all wrapped up!

Come back for another adventure anytime, we'd love to show you around.
