About

Steel Valley Project are a countryside management charity based in Stocksbridge (north Sheffield) and have a long history of delivering environmental, community and countryside projects with a range of partners.

Formed in 1988, the charity helps people to understand, value and care for their local environment, creating healthy and sustainable communities through:

Habitat management
Encouraging access
Environmental education and interpretation
Working with volunteer and community groups

Much of the work they carry out is via volunteer teams who work on practical and community activities throughout the year. Visitors to the area can get involved in volunteering opportunities and practical conservation tasks.

They also host a number of events throughout the year. These raise valuable funds for the charity and provide visitors with easy access to the incredible countryside in our area through way marked routes and marshal/feed station support.

Their Steel Valley Ride mountain bike event covers 31 miles and climbs over 3,500 feet through the dramatic Dark Peak landscape. It includes the technical terrain of the well-known Cut Gate bridleway and travels through the amazing landscape above Ladybower reservoir before returning to the starting point on some lesser travelled bridleways.
