Manchester Airport is an international airport in Ringway, Greater Manchester. The journey from Sheffield to Manchester airport is an hour and a half by car and about the same by train.
Driving to and from Manchester Airport
Manchester Airport is 9 miles south of Manchester city centre, next to the M56 and with easy links to the M6, M60 and M62.
The postcode for the airport is M90 1QX. It helps to know which terminal you’re flying from, so you can follow the signposts when you approach the airport.
Parking at the airport
There are a number of official airport parking options available, with prices to suit all budgets. To guarantee your space you can pre-book your preferred car park online, in a few simple steps.
Picking up and dropping off
If you’re dropping someone off at the airport, you can do so for free at the free drop off point. The free drop off point is on Thorley Lane, next to the JetParks 1 car park and clearly signposted from the M56. From here, passengers will be able to take a free and frequent shuttle bus to their terminal.
If you want to drop passengers off directly outside their terminal or at the Station, a charge will apply. The fee for this is £3 for five minutes and £4 for 10 minutes. Special arrangements apply for Blue Badge holders, local residents and Private Hire operators.
If you’re picking someone up from the airport, please park in the Arrivals car park (for Terminal 1 and Terminal 3) or in the Multi-Storey car park (all terminals).
Direct trains to the airport
The train station is located at the heart of the airport campus, which means passengers have easy access to all the terminals. With moving walkways throughout, it should take no more than 5 - 15 minutes to get to and from the terminals.
Regular trains to and from Manchester Piccadilly
Trains from Manchester Airport to Manchester Piccadilly station in the city centre take around 20 minutes. They run every 10 minutes, 7 days a week, through train operators TransPennine Express and Northern Rail. Meanwhile, you can travel to just about anywhere in the UK from Manchester Piccadilly.
