New year, new bunch of excellent events to look forward to in The Outdoor City.

The British Universities and College Sport Nationals once again return to Sheffield, bringing together over 6000 students for one big weekend of competitive sports.
Sheffield Beer Week
It may not strike you as one for the outdoor enthusiast, but among Sheffield Beer Week's programme of events there ends to be a few guided walks of interesting and historic pubs and breweries. And any good walk or bike ride should end in a good pub.
The Outdoor Weekender
The most action-packed weekend in Sheffield. The Outdoor City Weekender returns for a third year in 2018, comprising headline events ShAFF (Sheffield Adventure Film Festival), CWIF (Climbing Works International Festival), the Magnificent Seven bike ride, and the Howard Street Dual, as well as a bunch of fringe events that will get everyone excited about the city's great outdoors.
Sheffield Half Marathon
Thousands took part in the half marathon last year, and tickets are selling fast for the 2018 race. The route starts in the city centre, before running up Ecclesall Road towards Ringinglow on the edge of the Peak District, where runners will be treated to beautiful views of the city.

5 May – Round 1: Kelham Island
28 July – Round 2: Park Hill Flats
9 September – Round 3: Olympic Legacy Park
The Outdoor City’s very own urban cyclo-cross series returns for 2018, combining fast-paced racing for riders and an exciting day for spectators with urban architecture and daredevil cyclo-cross. Routes include the Kelham Island cobbles, the concrete streets in the sky at Park Hill, and the recently opened Olympic Legacy Park.
Peaty’s Steel City Downhill
One of the most anticipated events in the city's mountain biking calendar, the Steel City Downhill returns to Greno Woods for its eighth year. Organised by Steve Peat – aka Peaty – and friends, it takes all the best bits of MTB races that Steve has experienced around the world and puts them into a small woods in Sheffield.
Originally a ride to mark the life of Eric Codling, this mass participation cycling event contiues to grow and has turned into something much bigger, with the RideforEric Trust established to promote safe cycling via various activities. This year ride has moved to a new event hub at Forge Valley School.
Eroica Britannia isn't exactly in Sheffield, but it attracts a good few people from The Outdoor City to nearby Buxton each summer for its festival of cycling, music and vintage dress-up.
Round Sheffield Run
Starting and finishing in Endliffe Park, this 20km run follows the route of the Sheffield Round Walk – taking in beautiful woodland and parkland at the edge of the city. It ends with a celebratory post-race party in the park.
An inner-city celebration of Sheffield's great outdoors. Cliffhanger brings together all manner of activities for all ages, that'll get the adrenaline going and give you chance to try out something new.
Sheffield Grand Prix
This year, the Grand Prix will once again play host to the HSBC UK National Circuit Championships, a high-tempo evening of criterium racing live in Sheffield City Centre.
Sheffield Walking Festival
Strap on your boots and take in Sheffield on foot as Sheffield Walking Festival returns. Over ten days, the festival presents a host of enjoyable walks for a range of abilities, with plenty to see and discover along the way.
Asda Foundation Sheffield 10K
Organised by the same people behind the Yorkshire Half Marathon – Sheffield, this race follows a fantastic course right through the heart of the city and out in the direction of its pretty suburbs.
Monsal Hill Climb
Fancy your chances scaling one of the toughest hills the Peak District has to offer? Now in its 88th year, only the fittest need apply for the Monsal Hill Climb, an ascent of 675 yards with a punishing gradient.
An exciting and creative multi-terrain trail 10k, attracting over 1000 runners each year. Starting and finishing in Sheffield's beautiful Endcliffe Park, the event has a great atmosphere and is well supported. The first edition was on the 10th October 2010, hence the funny name!
Percy Pud 10K
The ever popular Bradfield-based Christmas road race returns. Keep an eye on the Steel City Striders site for news of registration opening – it may be down to the fact that every finisher in the race receives a Christmas pudding, but it tends to book up very quickly!
