It’s back – The Outdoor City’s very own urban cyclo-cross series, which combines fast-paced racing for riders and an exciting day for spectators with urban architecture and daredevil cyclo-cross.
Sheffield Urban CX has quickly become one of the most unique and friendly cycling events in the city, re-imagining iconic Sheffield buildings and sites by using them as an arena for an exciting urban cycle race format – usually with some great street food stalls to keep spectators refreshed.
Previous events have seen riders battle it out over the Kelham Island cobbles and Park Hill's streets in the sky. For 2018, the Sheffield Urban CX series is returning to these battlegrounds, with the addition of the Olympic Legacy Park too.
5 May – Round #1: Kelham Island Museum
28 July – Round #2: Park Hill Flats
9 September – Round #3: Olympic Legacy Park
For 2018 there are also two additional pop up events. The first takes place on 17 June, the course will be on local dairy farm (and artisan ice cream maker extraordinaire) Our Cow Molly. The second pop up on 7 July will be a fringe event at Sheffield’s ‘Cliffhanger’ outdoors festival, which will see riders taking on the cobbles up to Park Hill Flats in Sheffield’s first urban hill climb- a little warm up to the main Park Hill CX event later that month.
Get the dates for 2018 in your diary and if you're keen to take part, pick your category – they range from amateurs to experienced, right down to a balance bike category for mini racers. Registrations for all the races are open now over at www.sheffieldurbancx.co.uk.
