It’s back - The Outdoor City’s very own urban cyclo-cross series, which combines fast-paced racing for riders and an exciting day for spectators with urban architecture and daredevil cyclo-cross. After the success of KICX where riders battled it out over the Kelham Island cobbles in May, Urban CX is coming to the concrete streets in the sky, Park Hill Flats - PHCX - on Saturday 16th September, 10am-6pm.
The Sheffield Urban Cyclo Cross series of races re-imagines iconic Sheffield buildings and sites by using them as an arena for an exciting urban cycle race format, that the organisers are hoping will be a fixture on the city’s cycling calendar for time to come.
“We are really excited to be allowed to use Park Hill as a venue. The redevelopment has brought new life to this amazing site, reigniting community and also been home to exciting businesses such as Warp Films", race organiser Adam Simmonite told us. “It’s going to be a great course, a bit more stretched out than the Kelham course. We're going to incorporate built features to add even more excitement. We'll be running a women's race as well as junior races. The series is all about grass roots racing and it’s a great way to get riders of all ages inspired. We'll be delighted to welcome back riders who raced it the Kelham race taking on our next challenge at Park Hill”.
The Sheffield Urban CX team want the series to become one of the friendliest cycling events in the city and beyond. “We want the riders to become a part of the race's evolution, so we asked them for their feedback after the Kelham race". Adam tells us “The amount of positive and constructive comments was fantastic and we have built these into the planning, delivery and running of the Park Hill event”.
Sunshine Pizza will be on hand making their artisan pizzas and Wet thi Whistle, Sheffield’s newest, smallest but friendliest mobile bar will be providing refreshments. Racing starts at 10.30am and runs till around 6pm, so come along and enjoy the day and cheer the riders on. If you fancy a go at riding the race, there are still entries available for some of the categories, and you can enter online.
