Eat your way around the world, without leaving Sheffield

A mere hop and skip away from the city centre, London Road is worth venturing off-piste for a culinary tour around the world. This food mile offers some of the best Chinese, Vietnamese, Turkish and Japanese restaurants in Sheffield. Everyone’s got a favourite haunt, but with very few exceptions, you can’t go out for dinner and go wrong on London Road. Here are some highlights:

Zeugma
Many Sheffielders’ absolute favourite: Turkish doesn’t get more authentic than this. A mecca for mezze, chargrilled meats and quality kebabs (try the adana or iskander), vegetarians don’t miss out either, thanks to their excellent halloumi kebabs. Booking’s advisable but if you can’t bag a table at Zeugma, try their second restaurant Zeugma Iki at no 108 London Rd.

Yama Sushi
This Japanese restaurant is a triumph of the country’s cuisine. A dimly-lit, intimite and stylish place to eat out with an extensive menu (including decent vegetarian and vegan options, plus a handy key to allergens) and really attentive service, you will be spoilt for choice for your supper. Kimchi and agetashi tofu make a delicious starter, while their fried noodles with miso soup and vast array of maki and nigiri will not disappoint for mains. Finish with a drop of sake.

Noodle Inn
Specialising in big plates of noodles and authentic saucy Szechuan mains, as well as fragrant fish and terrific tofu, Noodle Inn surely lays claim to having the largest Chinese menu in Sheffield. Portions are gargantuan – so turn up hungry and be sure to fit in starters. The complimentary ice-cream after your meal’s a nice touch for kids big and small.

Dim Sum
Many foodies swear by this place. Whilst Dim Sum is the name, it also describes what you’ll find within: the Cantonese tradition of feasting on a wide range of small plates and snacks, rather than one large dish. There's plenty for fish fans, meat lovers and veggies alike – plus its one of the few places in Sheffield where you can get your hands on Chinese steamed buns (bao).

La Mama
We get that the point of tapas is to share, but this lovely Latin restaurant makes it really difficult – everything on the menu tastes so great that we just want it all to ourselves!

The Broadfield
Pies and sausages: it doesn’t get more comforting than this. The Broadfield’s menu features daily specials of each, including decent vegetarian options. They’re not short on options for washing down their delicious meals either, with a bar lined with ales and whiskies from near and far. After your meal move across into the busy bar area and snap up a booth, beautifully put together from reclaimed railway doors during the pub’s restoration in 2011.

Bragazzi’s
There’s so much to love at this Italian cafe and deli: delicious homemade panini and cakes, scoops of gelato in summer, coffees expertly made from their own unique blend, and panettone to take home at Christmas. On top of all that, there’s the added bonus of Bragazzi’s decor – the best in Sheffield. And, situated on Abbeydale Road, it’s the perfect place to recuperate after a good rummage in the many nearby shops and centres of the Sheffield Antiques Quarter.

Jameson’s Tea Rooms
Sparkly chandeliers, linen tablecloths and a fabulous spread of sticky buns, enormous scones and lovely homemade cakes makes this traditional and gorgeous family-run tea room our go-to place when we’re craving something sweet.
