The Outdoor City Adventure Breaks

The Outdoor City…bringing young European travellers to enjoy short breaks that combine the best of our city and countryside.

Sheffield’s bid to VisitEngland’s Discover England Fund was successful and we’ve been awarded funding to create a new type of city break that allows outdoor enthusiasts to indulge their passion for adventure alongside the culture, community and nightlife of the city.

We want to enthuse new visitors about what Sheffield: The Outdoor City has to offer and attract visitors from Germany, Holland and Scandinavia. The initial working title for the bid was 'Adrenaline Fuelled City Breaks' but after feedback at our intial launch event on we will be using The Outdoor City branding. We’ve been busy conducting a research programme to inform our strategy and we have learnt lots about our target markets. What they like, how they book and what interest they have for The Outdoor City after we told them about what we have to offer. Take a look at the video to see one of the passionate responses we had during this research.

Now we're moving onto Product Development and we want to work with businesses that want to feature as part of this exciting project to help develop the full experience for visitors. If you have an existing experience, product or service or an idea for something new, you can work with us to realise the opportunities for your business. For guidance, here's some examples of the type of businesses we’d like to hear from:

  • Excursion and activity providers

  • Transport operators

  • Equipment hire / buy / storage

  • Guides / local experts / Outdoor City ‘hosts’

  • Adventure sports organisers

  • Accommodation providers

  • Publicans, restaurateurs, cafes

  • City / Cultural activities

  • Activity leaders / coaches

  • Tour guides
