The Outdoor City…bringing young European travellers to enjoy short breaks that combine the best of our city and countryside.
Sheffield’s bid to VisitEngland’s Discover England Fund was successful and we’ve been awarded funding to create a new type of city break that allows outdoor enthusiasts to indulge their passion for adventure alongside the culture, community and nightlife of the city.
We want to enthuse new visitors about what Sheffield: The Outdoor City has to offer and attract visitors from Germany, Holland and Scandinavia. The initial working title for the bid was 'Adrenaline Fuelled City Breaks' but after feedback at our intial launch event we will be using 'The Outdoor City' brand and will go out to market as 'Outdoor City Adventure Breaks'.
We’ve been busy conducting a research programme to inform our strategy and we have learnt lots about our target markets. What they like, how they book and what interest they have for The Outdoor City after we told them about what we have to offer. Take a look at the video below to see one of the passionate responses we had during this research.
Most recently we've been progressing through the Product Development stage of the programme and have been talking to range of local businesses about how they can work with us. Thank you to everyone who's expressed an interest and attended one of our workshops so far.
Next up, we're going to be holding some Insight Events over coming months. The first of these is on Wednesday 25 July (12pm-2.30pm), when we welcome Ross Murray OLY, Destination Manager at TripAdvisor to share with us:
• Top tips for businesses to benefit from TripAdvisor
• Advice on how to maximise your business listing
• How to respond to reviews
• How to use TripAdvisor to drive business
In addition to TripAdvisor, we’ll update you on how the project is progressing and give you a chance to hear from some of the businesses offering a product or service that might enhance your own offer to visitors.
Who should attend?
This event is aimed at those businesses keen to work with us to increase the city’s profile as a city break destination and targeting an international audience keen on mountain biking, cycling, climbing and walking.
The event is FREE to attend but places are limited so please make sure you register via Eventbrite http://bit.ly/TOCJULYevent
